In Training Phase I EXACT implements a set of six Ph.D. courses for all EXACT fellows in order to teach key academic and scientific skills with a view to preparing the academic thesis and introducing the fellows into basic skills for the professional training. The courses are part of the Ph.D. studies at the University of Cologne, but are partly carried out at different places (Brussels, Berlin, Enschede). Thus, the local expertise at the University of Cologne is complemented by the inclusion of four Visiting Scientists top strengthen the inter-disciplinary and trans-national focus of the join training programme.
